Ani Eagan adds art to Herald . . . and her skin

Some students doodle on paper, some write notes on their skin, but Ani (pronounced ah-nee) Eagan ‘24 doodles on her skin.

“I just like to draw on myself,” she said, “so my parents got me these markers [BodyMark by Bic] that are skin safe, because I draw on myself too much. They didn’t want me to get ink poisoning.”

Eagan said that she drew a QR code on her leg that if scanned, would prompt the scanner’s phone to play Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

“They would be ‘Rick-rolled,’” Eagan said with a chuckle.

Self-described as creative, anxious and kind, Eagan arrived from Community High School in the middle of 10th grade – a decision driven by her parents.

“I had a lot of friends there,” she said. “I knew a lot of the teachers. We got along really well. I just felt like a lot people shared the same beliefs as me, and I could be myself.”

For most of the trimesters two and three in 2021, she took her classes virtually.

“I had a big fear of sickness,” she said. “It was too much to come in person.”

She also has a pragmatic view of NCS. “As long as it gets me to college, I’m good" Eagan said. "I like all of my teachers.”

She can be seen eating lunch along the student center portico with her sister Evie '25.

“I don’t really have any friends,” Eagan said. “If I’m with someone, it’s probably [Evie].”

Eagan took many arts classes at Community High, so she takes Intermediate Art as a junior.

“Ani Eagan is a serious artist we are lucky to have at North Cross!” Art teacher Amy Jackson said in an email interview. “Last year Ani became involved in the NCS theatre program and the Fine Arts Distinction, and she joined a studio class this year. She also did a summer internship at the Taubman Museum of Art, has taken art classes in the past, and pursues art on her own (outside Xcourse). With so many areas of talent and enthusiasm for the fine arts, we are sure to see great things from Ani over the next two years!”

Eagan hopes to get into a famous art school like Cal Arts, where students get experience and opportunities to work in the gaming and movie industries.

Eagan finds different ways to explore character design, like developing role-playing games.

“RPGs are a really good way to tell stories,” Eagan said. “I’ve always liked writing fiction. I’ve always liked making characters.”
