Working Snow or Shine: David Stevens ‘34 collects eggs from his family’s chicken coop on Dec. 9. The Stevens have around 30 laying hens and collects roughly 20 eggs per day. Even on snow days with the temperatures dropping into the low 20s, David religiously cares for his flock collecting eggs and making sure they have food and water every day. As a reward for his efforts, he is allowed to keep any money that is collected from selling the eggs. “It’s hard work, especially when it’s so cold,” he said,“but I enjoy taking care of animals.” David is from Catawba, Virginia and they received almost five inches of snow on Dec. 8 resulting in two days off from school.
