Henry Schumm ‘25, never would have thought that he would end up at North Cross School.

Schumm is in grade nine and starting his first year as a Raider.

Before coming to North Cross, Schumm went to Community School for 11 years.

Though he enjoyed his time there, he was looking forward to a very different experience for high school.

Just a few months ago he made the decision to choose North Cross as his school to pursue for the next four years.

“I was leaning towards Patrick Henry,” Schumm said, “but ended up deciding that North Cross was the best fit for me.” Schumm had many options for schools he could attend, but it came down to Patrick Henry and North Cross. Schumm chose North Cross because he liked the environment and community when he visited and was impressed by the campus.

Aside from being a good student, Schumm is also an avid mountain biker.

“I’ve been a cyclist since I was a kid,” Schumm said, “At first it was just for fun, but I realized my passion for it as I got older.”

Schumm's biggest accomplishment in cycling is winning overall in the Virginia high school series for his age group. Schumm is adamant on pursuing cycling and trains almost every day.

“My favorite thing about North Cross is the student body,” Schumm said, “and how there aren’t too many people but there are also plenty of people to have lots of friends.”

Other than biking, Schumm spends a lot of his free time hanging out with his friends, going to the lake, biking for fun, playing games and being outside.

He loves animals and has two dogs named Toby, and Lila

Henry is looking forward to spending the rest of his high school years at North Cross and is really excited to be taking journalism and hopes to pursue it until graduation.

He also likes math and is pretty good at it but doesn’t see himself using it in a career in the future.

He wants to keep biking even when he's older and hopes that he can maybe even have a career of cycling or if not, he might want to have a job related to cycling because he would also enjoy helping others achieve their goals in cycling.
