The next big thing in soccer is ready to take the field for his second season with the Raiders.
Jimmy Dickerson ‘25 is well known as a soccer player, but his teammates may not know what fuels his performance.
“I like Reeses,” Dickerson said, “the big Reeses, the kind with the four pack like the King Size, baby.”
Dickerson gets his Reeses at the 7-11 in Blacksburg, where he lives.
”I like to play soccer,” said Dickerson.
He was one of the team captains for the middle school soccer team. He has been playing soccer for three years and has no signs of slowing down.
Dickerson is a right wing in soccer which means he has run a lot and have to play offense and defense. Dickerson scored two of the three goals last season.
Dickerson used to play for NRU in travel soccer. He was exceptional in every tournament he played in, especially in one tournament in North Carolina. Dickerson scored seven goals with a hat trick in one game, two goals in one, and one goal in the last two games. They ended up winning the tournament.
When he switched to North Cross, he could not make it to his practices in Blacksburg after his school practices. He unfortunately had to quit due to not being able to practice.
“I am not that good anymore, I rode the bench last game,” Dickerson said “but I am going to work harder to make sure it doesn’t happen again,”
Dickerson also likes to learn.
When he isn't playing soccer, he is keeping his grades up to be able to play.
“I like to learn math and science”, Dickerson said. He averages A’s in Algebra and Conceptual Physics. in all of his classes all year long.
One of his favorite things to do when he is not playing soccer is to ride his new hoverboard that he got for his birthday in his driveway. The hoverboard is black and it has LED light wheels. The board tops out at 10 miles per hour.
At one point, Dickerson was a skateboarder.
Dickerson would skate when he got home from school or whenever he had time. His best trick was the the flip. That is a kickflip with a 360 shuvit which is really hard to do. Dickerson skates any time he has free time
