Hania Raza '24: An Interest in the Medical Field

Avid traveler and aspiring doctor, Hania Raza, ‘24, has big plans and goals for the future.

Raza is only 14, however she already has a career picked out. She dreams of going to medical school to become a doctor. She hasn’t decided on a college yet, nor a specific field of medical study, she just knows she wants to be a doctor and spend her life helping those in need. Her parents are both doctors. That is one reason why she wants to become a doctor herself. It’s what she knows and loves.

“I’ve seen them [parents] working as doctors my whole life, so I’m actually interested in becoming a doctor,” Raza said. “I want to go into the medical field.”

Raza has an assortment of hobbies as well. She likes to draw and sing, being a part of the North Cross choir. She isn’t in Chorale this year due to class period complications, but she intends to join back next year.

“In my freetime, I love to browse Pinterest to find cool pictures of people as references,” Raza said. “I also love sketching characters that I make up. I like to sing most genres of music. Mainly, I sing popular songs that I have heard many times.”

She also treats journalism as a hobby.

“I wanted to pick up journalism because I really wanted to improve my writing, but I ended up really liking the class,” Raza states. When asked if she was going to continue journalism for the rest of high school, she responded with “Hopefully, I want to.”

Raza also stated that she travels quite a bit. She’s been to five different countries including the United States. She has a lot of family living in Pakistan, so she has had the opportunity to visit several times. Other countries she’s traveled to include Turkey and Canada, along with the city of Dubai. When she’s older, Raza says she wants to travel around Europe and go to places like England, France, and Italy. She also says she would like to visit Turkey again, as it has been her favorite place she’s traveled to so far. While she hasn’t thought about it too much, she says that she is also not opposed to the idea of maintaining a job and working outside the USA.

A close friend of Raza’s, Kaeleigh Howlett, ‘24, was also able to provide some positive words about her fellow student.

“I met Hania in kindergarten at North Cross. I would describe Hania’s personality as hardworking and caring. She is a very nice person in general and I am glad she has been my friend for all these years,” Howlett said.

“I think she is most passionate about her school work and succeeding in everything she does,” Howlett said.
Raza is seen as a very dedicated person by her peers, which will hopefully be a good source of encouragement for her as she continues to work towards her goals.

Raza commented on the most important aspect of journalism.

“I think the most important thing is just, make sure you’re writing about the facts,” Raza says, “so everyone gets the correct news.”
